Romulus and Remus are the traditional founders of Rome, twin sons of the Vestal Virgin Rhea Silvia, fathered by the god of war, Mars. According to the tradition Romulus served as the first King of Rome. We did not see Romulus as we did not see Leonardo in Florence, but here we are: the capital of Italy.

This is one of the best city in the world, historically and turistically speaking. In 3 days we walked more than we did in the last 2 weeks. But we are never tired and when you find such good old architectural things around, you are really motivated to go onwards. The
Colosseum underlines the huge
Roman emperor along with its
Arch of Constantine perfectly conserved.
Castel Sant'Angelo, the
Pantheom are other important symbols of the
ancient Rome.

The main squares such as
Piazza di Trevi with its popular fountain,
Piazza di Spagna are tangible Neoclassicism things that worth a visit. It's too hot and sometimes, even if we are
gladiators, we need to stop and drink something.
Rome was a major world centre of the Renaissance, second only to Florence. The most impressive masterpiece of Renaissance architecture in Rome is the
Piazza del Campidoglio by
Michelangelo. During this period, the great aristocratic families of Rome used to build opulent dwellings as the
Palazzo del Quirinale and the
Palazzo Farnese, now used by politicians.

Going out of Rome, or better staying inside, we visited the
Basilica S. Pietro, symbol of the
Vatican city, the smallest country over the world. I can go ahead forever, as there are 1000 things or more to see in Rome... but I think people can figure the importance of Rome out, just coming here and walk....
